The DeviantArt Community Turns 14This art website turns 14 today, bros. Here's a feature for some of the best MLP art I've found:
When you're young, your teenage years can't come soon enough. Thirteen was fun, but with a whole year as a teenager under your belt, you start to get perspective on what it means to grow up. You're not there yet, but the path ahead is clear and inspiring.
At 14, you start taking on responsibilities and testing out maturity, while continuing to reach for the stars and fostering the creativity that's such an integral part of your life.
DeviantArt's 14th birthday marks the ushering in of this new chapter. For the past year, we've gained perspective on where our journey should lead us next, and we couldn't be more thrilled to share it with you and have you with us every step of th
A year ago, I was living in Colorado, and pretty much having the time of my life. I was living with Matt, and a family member at an apartment that we(meaning matt and I) were renting. Things were going pretty decently, we all had work, bills were getting paid, and we were just having a good time. But as we all know, shit hits the fan occasionally, and boy did it. My first job was cutting my hours to the point where it was like barely 10 hrs a week. I asked them if it was okay if I started looking for second job, and they were very nice about it, and encouraged me to do so, because they knew the hours were shitty for everyone.
So, I found a second job, working with my family member, and things were wonderful there. We spent all day together working, and we worked well together. I told my first job that my availability was going to change like we had discussed, because of my second job. At first, they were very silent about it, but then the abuse came. They told me I was a horrible person, I didn't deserve the job there, that I wasn't good enough for them. Basically made me feel like a castout, a nobody, like I was worth nothing. They forced me to sign a two week notice, and used the excuse that I wasn't available enough to work there, when clearly when we spoke about it before, it was okay. Every time I came into work, they would let me work for 5 minutes, and then sent me home. At this point, I was really ill as well, so I was knee deep in hospital bills. I really wanted to keep working both jobs, just to be responsible and to pay my bills from the hospital.
Eventually I decided not to go back to the first job, just because of the way they were treating me every time I came in, and the fact that I was wasting so much money on gas, just to be sent home a few minutes later. I had a back up plan, job 2. I figured everything was going to be okay, especially because I had found a way to fully pay off the hospital bills. Wrong again.
A few days later, my second job fired me and my family member, because they felt we weren't "southern enough" That was their ONLY reason. All the other employees had no idea we were being let go, and about half of them quit or threatened to quit because of what happened. They didn't even have the kindness to tell it to my face, it was over the phone. They said they would mail me my check that day, and hung up.
I started furiously looking for a job, every day I would sit and fill out applications and send resumes. My family member was doing the same, but had no luck. So this entire time Matt and I had been supporting her financially, because we had a bit more money then her. I noticed that she was keeping to herself more, and wouldn't want to do anything with either Matt or I. Every time I offered to take her around town to look for a job, she refused, saying she didn't feel like it, felt sick, any excuse in the book. Matt and I were starting to get super concerned, but figured we could deal with living very minimally, just so we could pay rent.
Later that day, I got a phone call from my parents. They were very concerned because they had gotten a phone call from my family members old boyfriend, saying they got back together and she was moving back in with him (in another state, no less). They wanted to know if I knew anything, but I hadn't the slightest clue, my family member had not mentioned this guy for a very long time. We all thought he was lying, just to anger us. I figured I would go home and see what the truth was before jumping to any conclusions.
I got home and told my family member we needed to talk. I explained to her about the phone call I had received, and asked if it was true. She looked at me and said yes. I couldn't believe it! We had an agreement, she was supposed to sign the new lease with us, as a roomate, that week. We already started the process awhile ago because our lease ended on the 30th of april, 2013. According to the apartment complex she had been living with us just as a guest this whole time, which they really didn't care about. She said she was leaving within the next few days, and that she was sorry. At this point, I was enraged. What was I supposed to do? I was totally fucked.
Unfortunately, we couldn't afford to pay the bills, rent, and food without her. And ontop of that, I unexpectedly also got another hospital bill that I needed to pay. We needed at least 3 people in the house to be able to afford anything. We used to have another roomate, but he moved away because of his own financial issues. All of our friends colorado were unable to help, either they couldn't pay the rent in order to live with us, or already moved recently.
We didn't have many options, but still decided to look into other apartments around the area. We spent the entire night looking online at other complexes nearby, just to see if there was any chance we could still figure something out. No luck again. All the cheaper ones, you couldn't have a dog, and we have Bumble. Everything else was more expensive then our current apartment, so obviously we couldn't move to those places. We had no clue what to do.
We called Matt's mom the following night, just to tell her the situation. She offered her home to us, which I was beyond thankful for. Problem was that she lived in California. I had no other reasonable choice. I had to sell all my possessions and only take what I could fit in the car. I needed to give away my animals( my geckos, fish, and hamster) because we couldn't transport any of them across the state line. I only had 12 days to do this all, to sell all my stuff, clean the entire house and move.
The main problem that occurred was that (understandably so) you have to give the complex 60 days notice if you are leaving or you get charged up the ass with fees. We have now dealt with the damages, but it has still given our wallets quite the shock. We also had to pay some fees from my family member, because they had left in such a hurry, we had to take care of their remaining expenses.
